Brief Overview of the Project:
This large bronze animal sculpture project was commissioned by our client from New Zealand, and we were involved in both the design and fabrication processes. Our client approached us to create these sculptures as a tribute to his uncle and his uncle’s beloved animals.
Our client’s uncle was one of the finest elephant handlers of his time, caring for elephants at a renowned circus in Australia during his youth. Later, our client’s father and uncle purchased a baby African elephant from a zoo in Hawaii. They established their own circus and performed across New Zealand for the next 40 years. About five years ago, our client’s uncle’s health deteriorated, and the baby elephant, saddened by this, also passed away.
There was a profound mutual love between our client’s uncle and the animals, prompting our client to believe that creating a full-sized sculpture in their honor would be a fitting tribute.
Design Process:
The designers at Relong engaged in meticulous communication with our client regarding the design of the custom copper elephant, human figures, and giraffe sculptures. Our designers utilized 3D renderings to finalize the designs and details of the elephant and giraffe. Ultimately, both our team and the client unanimously decided to portray the client’s uncle’s life-sized sculpture alongside his beloved elephant, adopting identical postures.
Lost Wax Casting Process Guarantees Details:
After we know the story behind our client’s uncle and animal, we pay extra attention to the sculpture casting. With the designs confirmed by the client, we meticulously attended to every stage of production. Initially, our team of skilled clay model artists, specializing in copper animal sculptures, crafted 1:1 scale clay models that meticulously replicated every detail and dimension. Our artists paid keen attention to detail, meticulously sculpting and refining features such as the wrinkles on the elephant’s body, and the spots on the giraffe, and ensuring precise proportions for each animal.
Then, we send the completed clay model to our client for confirmation. Our client is very pleased with these lifelike clay models.
During the casting process, our professional QC team strictly controls every stage. Whether it is the details of the sculpture or the color treatment, it is cast and adjusted strictly in accordance with the customer’s requirements. In addition, the thickness of our bronze material is also thicker to ensure the quality of the sculpture. Finally, after very fine casting, our large bronze elephant statue, large bronze giraffe statues and customized life size bronze statue of our client’s uncle have been vividly finished.
Each feature of the sculptures, from the gentle curves of the elephant’s trunk to the graceful elongation of the giraffe’s neck, is rendered with exquisite precision, capturing the essence of these majestic creatures in bronze. The interplay of light and shadow accentuates every contour, breathing life into the static forms and imbuing them with a sense of vitality.
Client Feedback:
Our client in New Zealand owns a sizable estate and plans to transform some of its land into a memorial park where people can come to commemorate both his uncle and the animals from the circus. Among the focal points of this park are the stunning large bronze elephant statue and the equally impressive large giraffe statue.
